"Democracy leads to Despotism"

I respectfully disagree with Plato's wise quote, because a democracy is governing controlled equally through each individual. Despotism is a polar opposite form of government compared to democracy, because only one individual controls the government. An example of how a Democracy makes sure power stays spread, is through the separation of powers. These separate branches of government, utilized in the United State's government, can monitor one another. The power that each branch has to override the other, known as "checks and balances" stops any acts of despotism at an early stage. Corrupt democratic nations can lead to despotism, but the country often won't simply back down without a fight. Plato's quote is simply too specific to be agreeable. Democracy will not lead to despotism in many cases. Corruption almost never takes over a democracy, because its power is often distributed enough to avoid such corruption.

  1. I completely agree with your reasoning. Really the only possible way for a democracy t lead to Despotism is through corruption of the entire government.

  2. I agree with your statement about the quote being too specific to be agreeable... I found it hard to break it down into being true
