After reading this article about Al Qaeda sending aid to Somalia, I became skeptical of Al Qaeda’s intentions. A part of me wants to believe that Al Qaeda wants to change their ways and help the world rather than hurt it. When realistically thinking about it, they can’t be sincere about providing aid for Somalia. Like are they kidding? They are a terrorist group. There is nothing sincere about that. What is Al Qaeda trying to gain by this? Do they think this will make the world forget about all the damage they’ve done? This doesn’t make them a “kind” group. They aren’t fooling anyone. Al Qaeda obviously wants something in return from them. They know that they have the Somalians in the palm of their hands. I think that Al Qaeda is trying to stabilize Somalia in hopes of recruiting more members. They believe that Somalians will feel pressured to give back to them after they have helped their community survive. Personally, if I were in Somalia I would be so desperate for help that I would obviously let them help me too. But when Somalia hopefully pulls through this famine they should not feel obligated to do whatever Al Qaeda says. I fear that Al Qaeda will only recruit more members and become more powerful. Now that’s scary....
