Somalian Article

Gettleman’s article “Somalia Food Giveaway in Al Qaeda’s Name Raises Questions and Criticism,” was quite frustrating and disgusting to read because, personally, Al Qaeda will never be looked upon as “good” and “supportive.” Of course as an American, the relationship we have with Al Qaeda is different than other countries, but if one group can hurt one country like it hurt ours, I don’t believe it has the heart to actually try and fix the starvation problem. It is ridiculous to say that Al Shabaab is not a follower of Al Qaeda, and I believe that Al Qaeda had that representative come as propaganda to try and take their names out of the starvation problem, even though they are very much involved. Abu Abdulla Almuhajir stated “Our beloved brothers and sisters in Somalia, we are following your situation on a daily basis,” but clearly they would have intervened sooner if they truly cared about the starving people. I agree that the food distribution is a mockery, and because I believe this, I think it is horrible that they are doing this for their image rather than the people. It shows how cold hearted they truly are. Mohamed said he believe it was a way to get child recruits, and I wouldn’t doubt that for a second. I don’t believe that Al Qaeda is becoming a philanthropist group; it wasn’t and never will be.
