Somalia Food Giveaway
A sense of hope is what I felt when I read the first line of this article "Al Qaeda is not known for its philanthropic activities, but this weekend in Somalia the terrorist group appears to have branched into a new business: distributing humanitarian aid" (Gettleman). After all destruction Al Qaeda has brought to people, its comforting to see then helping the starving and sick people in Somalia. Even though Al Qaeda seems willing to help, I still sense some hostility. For example they as "masked gunmen wearing clean, white vests like aid workers" (Gettleman). I think this it is a little extreme to have people come to aid and not even show your face to the people you want to help. I suppose I can understand the guns, just for protection in general, due to it being a bad area, but I definitely don't agree with he masks. If Mr. Almuhajar's skin is white and he speeches perfect English with a perfect accent, I don't see how he is anything but an American. I don't know where he was born or anything but I wouldn't be surprised if he was born in the U.S. Even though Al Qaeda has aided Somalia their aid isn't enough to do anything remotely close o what needs to be done. I don't know why they won't let western aid in to ease the causes of the several crises happening in Somalia because it would do nothing but help the people in need of help. There would be no danger to Al Qaeda or their leaders, so I don't see any reason for there to be no Western aid. Just because someone isn't apart of your same religion doesn't mean they aren't good people who can't do anything to help this crisis.
