Overall, I don’t think that our time spent in Iraq was successful. We initially went into Iraq in hopes of discovering their nuclear weapons. After a while when we didn’t find anything - it turned into a way to spread democracy into Iraq. Although many beg to differ with me, in a speech that Obama gave last week to troops who had just returned home he stated “Everything that American troops have done in Iraq, all the fighting and dying, bleeding and building, training and partnering, has led us to this moment of success.” I don’t agree with that statement for the single reasoning of 100,000 U.S soldiers losing their lives. I understand that when enlisting you’re basically handing your life over, but the amount of deaths got excessive and unnecessary. Although there was no other alternative, you can’t possibly bombard a country and search all over the place without force. You also cannot promote democracy without force. I understand that the morality of war can be justified but its terrible that there isn’t a more peaceful way of getting answers and promoting democracy. But yay to it being over! :)
