The War in Iraq

No, I don’t believe the war was at all successful. The US invaded Iraq on the aftermath of 9/11, our justification being that there was a connection between the widely unpopular, tyrannical leader of Iraq and the al-Qaeda lead attack and somewhere in the country there were “Weapons of Mass Destruction”. There was never any certifiable evidence to support this connection and there still is none today. Yes, we were able to take Saddam Hussein and the Iraqi people instated a new leader under free elections, but that was not our initial reason for invading. We landed ourselves in the middle of a conflict that had no business being under the encompassing umbrella of our so-called War On Terror. Iraq was and still is a victim of sectarian violence that runs extremely deep within the country. We ended up in the middle of that conflict while searching for WMDs that were never found and likely never existed. What resulted from the war in Iraq were a number of human rights violations and tragic losses of life.
