Chomsky vs. Friedman

Chomsky starts off the video about what he thinks globalization is. He says that it is a good system that brings rewards to anyone that matters. Basically he is saying that the rich are getting what they want and but the poor are in the shadows of globalization. Chomsky believes globalization is a great thing because it is international integration. The U.S and other nations benefit on globalization and the free imports that comes along with it. Free imports force farmers to move into urban areas to look for factory work and this brings the price of domestic goods down. This then leads to lower wages in those areas which causes the economy to boom.

Friedman begins his talk on how there have been three great eras of globalization. The first was from the end of the 1400's to the beginning of the 1800's where the only way you could globalize was with your country. The second era was the 1800's to the year 2000, where the way to globalize was through companies. The third era has been going on since the year 2000 to the present and globalization has been happening by individuals. He also expresses how now everything that can be done will be done. He says that you shouldn't sit back and wait because either you can do it now, or someone else will do it to you first.

I think both these speakers have very good thoughts on globalization. I tend to sway more with what Friedman says just because I really think he has the idea of globalization pinned down. I totally agree when he says that if you don't do what can be done, someone else will.
