Globalization
I think that globalization has had an overall positive impact on the world. Although there are negatives associated with globalization, I think the positives outweigh the negatives. Globalization has brought many people who had previously been peasants into a rising middle class. People in third world countries now have opportunities to make a decent living, get an education, and move up in the world. This is all because ideas, markets, businesses, and opportunities from around the world are now available in many remote, third world countries. Without globalization many of the people in these countries would have had one opportunity, to farm and barely make a living. Now they can get jobs with the capital from western nations. Western nations have brought large amounts of capital into countries that once had very little money flow at all. Money is now being made available to workers who can then use it to better their lives. Although we may think that these people are being exploited and are being payed far too little, many western businesses pay better than local businesses do. Many people make a better living by working for western businesses rather than local businesses. These are all opportunities that are only possible due to globalization.

Interesting argument, Kurt. I like how you emphasized the importance of globalization in creating jobs for people in Third World countries that may not have had these opportunities in the past.
