I’m still on the fence, as I believe that Globalization has
both negative and positive effects. I believe that Globalization is essential
to the world, so we can’t classify it as solely negative. However there are
definitely alterations that should be made to improve Globalization.
One
positive aspect, as stated in the article, is the millions of new job opportunities
in countries such as India and China. How can one think Globalization is
completely negative when it created 22 million new businesses for China and
provided their citizens with 135 million new job opportunities? Globalization
has evidently helped to boost the economy. I also believe that countries have
to rely on each other and because of that Globalization is inescapable.
However,
I do agree that there are definite drawbacks to Globalization. Some negative
effects include the increase in terrorism, child labor, and competition.
Another important negative effect is the loss of culture uniqueness. As the
world starts to become more globalized, each country losses its own distinctive
identity. The challenge going forward is to retain one’s own cultural identity
while living in a world revolved around globalization. While I believe
Globalization is unavoidable, my hope is that countries can work together to
avoid these negative impacts.
Katy, I completely understand your reasoning for thinking that globalization could have positive effect because of the increase in jobs. Something to consider, the jobs that are available are not payed well and in my opinion have a negative effect on how workers should to be treated. But I do see your point on as a positive change globally.
