Prior to reading the article on globalization I was
pro-globalization, and after reading both sides of the argument, I am still in
favor of globalization. Though I see the validity of both points of view, and I
do think that there are some negative aspects of globalization I think that the
positives outweigh the negatives. In the article that we read for homework, the
woman who argued that globalization is good made the point that globalization
is necessary for getting all that you can out of capitalism. Other countries
may offer goods at a cheaper price than the US, so for that company to make the
most profit it makes the most sense for them to trade and purchase globally,
which is a part of globalization. Also, being able to sell products to other
countries can increase how much money a business can make. I also totally agree
that this might be bad for American businesses too because if companies are
buying foreign made products they are obviously not buying the American made
products, but I think that there are more problems that would come with
economic isolationism. Also, I think if you purchase goods from other countries,
especially 3rd world countries, you are helping them rebuild their
economy, and I think that in the long run we would benefit from helping them
build up their economy.
I agree with all the points that you brought up. I thought it was interesting that you pointed out how selling our products in other countries increases the amount of money a business can make, but that it also can be a bad thing.
