No Food or Environmental Securities

At the time of the Declaration of Human Rights, WWII, totalitarianism, genocide and oppression were at the forefront of the world's mind. The UN created these human rights as a response to the Nazis and the horrific atrocities that occurred during the war. The Environment had not yet become a major concern for the world yet. Rachel Carson's Silent Spring, the source of the environmental movement had not been written. People were very unaware of the consequences of environmental degradation. Food securities were also not a prominent concern for the world at the time. Largely publicized famines had not been an area of concern yet. Due to the Great Depression people were more concerned about having enough money to buy food rather than having enough food for everyone.  However, there is a brief mentioning of having adequate food in article 25 of the Declaration of Human Rights. the main focus was on preventing horrible atrocities that had occurred during WWII and the years preceding it.
