Why the Environment and Food was left out...

It is very hard to ensure the securities of a clean environment and adequate food through a series of laws. At this time, around 1948, we didn't possess the desire to ensure clean air and water. We built many factories and weren't concerned with the pollution they had created. I feel we didn't realize/know that these factories were damaging our environment, so it wasn't part of the declaration. Even though countries within the UN agreed to follow the regulations, if environmental security was included in the declaration I don't think they would follow. It would be hard to convince them to stop certain practices, because over all they have control of their own country. Also, some countries depend on factories and other pollutants in order to trade and prosper. Food is also very difficult because during this time starvation wasn't a huge issue. I'm sure in some areas of the world there were famines, but not many that were known to the U.S.
