The conflict surrounding Palestine and Israel regarding Palestine’s statehood has been a present one for the last few decades and these two articles really bring to light all of the controversies surrounding it. I feel the article “Beyond Cairo, Israel Sensing A Wider Siege” shows that Netanyahu seems reluctant to change anything in his country with regards to Palestine and that’s causing a lot of backlash and continued tension with other countries. The article “In Seeking Statehood, Palestinians Stir Concern” counters this viewpoint with Palestine’s in how it is seeking power and statehood, the former being rejected by the US through an assumed veto. Both articles really make me realize that the conflict between Palestine and Israel really extends beyond just highly contested territories. I think it was revealed earlier in the year that a covert offer was proposed by Palestine in 2008 or 2009 that would’ve virtually given Israel almost all of Eastern Jerusalem in return for recognition, the most beneficial deal to Israel ever suggested and one that also angered Palestinians enormously. Israel turned it down. It all makes me wonder if an agreement could ever be reached between Israel and Palestine and what exactly their motives and tactics really are.

  1. I couldn't agree with you more about your statement, "that Netanyahu seems reluctant to change anything in his country with regards to Palestine and that's causing a lot of backlash and continued tensions with other countries". Lack of fixing the issue of the Turkish ship killing a year ago, caused Israel to get an ambassador kicked out of Turkey. It seems odd that an ambassador is getting kicked out now from a conflict occurring a year ago. The new Israeli Palestinian conflicts may influenced Turkey's decision.

  2. I never knew of the offer from Palestine in 2008-2009. I am shocked that Israel would not accept the offer. This could have at least eased some of the tensions between the two countries and the world would not be in the situation it is today. I think this is part of the reason for all of Israel's allies cutting ties with them. Israel's president, Mr. Netanyahu, is extremely stubborn and unable to see how his decisions may affect other countries and their relationships with Israel.

  3. I think that "their motives and tactics" are to have total victory. They both truly believe in what they are doing and will therefore never settle for anything less than complete surrender. Because of this they will fight each other for every inch of victory. Conflict will always be present as long as both have something to loose.

  4. I understand completely yet i would prefer to hear about what you believe will happen with the provided information because from what i read i believe that the palestinian statehood would cause the united states problems.
