Israeli & Palestinian Conflict

Israeli and Palestinian conflict has been a serious clash within the Middle East for some time now, and it is showing no signs of weakening. New growing fear is turning the conflict into a global issue that highlights the need for assistance from nations throughout the planet. One of the center issues between the conflict as depicted in the articles "Beyond Cairo, Israel Sensing a Wider Siege” and “In Seeking Statehood, Palestinians Stir Concern” by Ethan Bronner is the Palestinian desire to seek statehood recognition at the United Nations. This would create a vast amount of new opportunities for Palestine, which Ammar Hijazi, a Palestinian official who has done much of the background work on the United Nations application fully recognizes. Another Palestinian objective is the entrance into the International Criminal Court. This could entitle Palestinians the right to bring cases against Israeli officials to trial regarding actions of expansion and the nations decisions. My favorite take on these articles was at the conclusion of Beyond Cairo, Israel Sensing a Wider Siege” where Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, a Labor Party member of Parliament and a former defense minister, states that “If I were Bibi Netanyahu, I would recognize a Palestinian state. We would then negotiate borders and security. Instead nothing is happening. We are left with one ally, America, and that relationship is strained, too.” Time will only tell what a Palestinian state recognition will bring to the plate regarding conflict between the two Middle Eastern nations.
