Israeli-Palestinian conflict

The Israel-Palestinian conflict is not going away any time soon; however, the situation can be slightly rectified by both Israel’s and Palestine’s leaders being a bit more flexible. Israel’s president, Mr. Netanyahu, has not necessarily been looking at the big picture. He has been focused on getting exactly what Israel wants with no compromise. This, however, has caused Egyptians to deface the Israeli embassy and Turkey to expel the Israeli ambassador. These two countries have been Israel’s two strongest allies in the Muslim world. Now, they appear to be completely alone in the Middle East. According to Daniel Ben-Simon, Netanyahu’s “obsession against a Palestinian state, his total paralysis toward the Palestinian issue,” is beginning to put Israelis in danger. On the other side, “the Palestinians have given up on talks with Israel.” The Palestinians do not see the big picture either. They are looking out merely for their best interests. They are not acknowledging the fact that, if they do proceed and get statehood, a world war could ensue. With so many tangled alliances involving countries from nearly every continent, the war could begin in a similar way that World War I did. One little spark between two countries could ignite a full-blown world war and, since many of these countries have nuclear capabilities, the war would be much worse. Both Israel and Palestine need to see that, if they cannot come up with some sort of agreement or compromise, many innocent lives around the world could be at stake. The countries need to see the big picture and not be quite as provincial. Though no agreement could completely resolve the issue, something needs to be done to postpone the possibility of World War III.

  1. I agree with your statement about each country needing to "see the big picture" they're insane if they can't come up with a compromise...and they probably wont. I don't think they've realized what both countries are capable of and what this could lead to

  2. I think that "one little spark" could certainly escalate the conflict into something much bigger and worse then it already is. I also agree that each country needs to take into consideration what's at stake, including what's outside of their best interests.

  3. As American's I think it is easy to look in on a situation and tell everyone to relax, however i think the people in the area are sick of being told to relax and because of the unstable governments the people's will is the will of the country. While I am pro Israeli in this situation I think that both sides are "Justified" in their causes and because of the illusion of justice, they are blind to repercussions of their actions.
