U.S. Decision Regarding Palestinian Statehood

A possible yes or no outcome to Palestine’s recognition as a state should be seen in the near future. The United States plays a very important role in the situation, not by only being a permanent member in the fifteen member council of the United Nations, but also by being one of the few powers that is largely swaying towards vetoing the request. Along with Palestine’s desire to establish statehood they also seek the return of all 750,000 plus refugees and families that fled with Israeli expansion. If refugees began to reappear in the land then Israeli political standings would surely be outvoted due to the sheer number of available Palestinian voters. In my opinion, the United States has the perfect right to veto the request to the United Nations, for not only will the achievement of statehood to Palestine create greater conflict between the two nations, but it would also be likely to lead Israel to be recognized as a Jewish state. Resolutions between Palestine and Israel must be drawn up prior to either nation achieving statehood.
